The funding targets equipment acquisition and protocol development for rural clinics that currently lack ACR-accredited imaging suites. Eligible medical centers must demonstrate maintenance contracts with certified biomedical technicians stationed within 200 miles, accounting for South Dakota's technician density of 0.8 per 10,000 residents. Proposals require letters of support from at least two tribal health programs when serving reservation populations.
Unlike Nebraska or North Dakota programs, South Dakota applications must incorporate extreme temperature calibration data for equipment rated to -30°F operation. Projects succeed when they include mobile CT deployment schedules aligned with the state's 5,000 miles of county roads that lack year-round maintenance.
