Workforce Development Requirements in South Dakota

Applications must list the names and South Dakota medical license numbers of participating genetic counselors or physicians who will deliver the workshops. Budgets must allocate no less than 40 percent of total requested funds to per-diem and travel stipends, reflecting the state's average one-way distance of 187 miles between Indian Health Service facilities and the nearest board-certified geneticist.

Academic institutions outside the state must provide a letter from the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners confirming that out-of-state faculty may legally provide continuing education credits under SDCL 36-4-11.

Geographic Distribution of Training Sites

Workshops must be scheduled at a minimum of four sites, including one on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and one in the western coal-mining counties where recruitment and retention of primary-care providers fall 47 percent below the national average. Participant rosters must be verified against the South Dakota Department of Health's provider registry to confirm that at least 60 percent of attendees hold active South Dakota credentials.
